Running Reports: Working With Prompts

LAST UPDATED: April 30, 2018

What You Should Know

Using Financial Report Prompts

Report prompts allow you to specify selection criteria that determine what information is included in the report. These prompts may be optional or required.

Using the Tree Prompt

In a tree prompt, you drill down through a hierarchy of data, similar to a folder structure, and click the check box to select values. When you select a value, Cognos automatically includes all values that fall below the selected value in the hierarchy.

The Tree Prompt option is available for Department and Fund.

Enter Multiple Data Values in a Single Prompt

If you know exactly what values you want to select for a prompt, you can enter multiple values at once in a single prompt field to perform a search. This  will save time in specifying prompts for reports.

Search and Select Prompt Values

The Search and Select Prompt allows you to specify search criteria and select from the search results.

When performing a search on the Prompt page,  a wildcard (%) can be entered at the beginning, middle, and/or the end of your search criteria. Wildcards are used in place of unknown characters if you do not know the exact value for a prompt. A blank space between words or double quotes can also be used to help with the search.
