Before You Go

What You Should Know

Whether you travel domestically or internationally, ensure that someone in your department knows how to reach you in an emergency. Currently, students register trips in Concur; for all others, your travel will be registered if you book your trip using Concur.

If your trip includes international travel, get an International SOS card and become familiar with the services offered should you need help.

Alternatives to Travel

Please consider videoconferencing or web conferencing as an alternative to travel.  The University provides a variety of options, including desktop videoconferencing, videoconference rooms, and portable videoconferencing.

General Considerations

  • Travelers should neither gain nor lose personal funds as a result of business travel on behalf of Princeton University.
  • Be sure to have necessary approvals and travel documents in order prior to your travel.
  • Book airline tickets as far in advance as possible (at least 14 days) in order to obtain advance purchase discounts and optimal travel times.
  • Follow the terms of sponsored research agreements for travel under such agreements.

Our Business Expense Policy and Travel Policy provide detailed guidance related to reasonable, appropriate, and allowable expenses for travel and entertainment associated with University business, including expenses charged against restricted funds.
