Office of the Controller
The Office of the Controller has overall University responsibilities for financial reporting, payroll, gift and endowment accounting, sponsored research accounting, and tax. Our team:
- Prepares the University’s annual audited financial statements.
- Manages the independent auditor relationship.
- Maintains the integrity of the general ledger.
- Assists departments with internal financial statements.

Collections
Financial Reporting
The Financial Reporting Department provides the University with robust information, analysis, and insight to help achieve Princeton’s teaching and research mission.
Gift and Endowment Accounting
The Department of Gift and Endowment Accounting provides accounting, operational and compliance support for a wide range of contributions to the University including term gifts, endowed gifts, annual giving, capital gifts, gifts-in-kind, bequests and "planned" gifts. The department also provides accounting and operational support to the Princeton University Investment Company relating to the University’s endowment.
Payroll
The Payroll Department processes paychecks for Princeton faculty, staff, and students.
Sponsored Research Accounting
Sponsored Research Accounting partners with Princeton’s grants community in the financial stewardship of sponsored research funds awarded to the University to ensure compliance.
Tax
Princeton University’s Tax Department ensures compliance with federal and state tax laws and acts as a resource for the University community with respect to tax issues.
