Purpose of Journals
There are four main reasons why you may need to create a Prime Journal. The type of Prime Journal you choose depends on the purpose, and other financial management considerations.

Prime Journal Types
There are four types of Prime Journals you can use to create a financial transaction. The purpose of your transaction, and other fund management considerations, drive your choice.
Assignment Journal
Preferred method of allocating monies from one chartstring to another because it keeps the source Fund in-tact.Transfer Journal
Used to allocate monies from one chartstring to another, without keeping the source Fund in-tact. Dollar amount and other restrictions apply.Cost Transfer/Correction Journal
Used to move misposted transactions from one chartstring to another, by individual transaction.Standard Journal
Used for various accounting transactions including to “pay” another chartstring for a good or service provided.
