Princeton University Tax Information for Public Review

The University makes several tax-related documents available for public review, including its most recent tax returns, our tax exemption determination letter from the IRS, our U.S. tax residency certificate, and our taxpayer identification number (W-9).

Tax Returns and Tax Residency Certificates

You may request copies of the University’s:

  • Form 990, Return of Organization Exempt from Income Tax;

  • Form 990-T, Exempt Organization Business Income Tax Return; and

  • Form 6166, the University’s U.S. Tax Residency Certificate.

The University charges a fee to cover the cost of copying and mailing, if applicable. You may pay this fee by check or cash. There is no fee for Form 6166 requests.

Please send your request by email. Provide all necessary contact information. There is no charge for electronic copies of the requested information.

In-Person Requests

You may request returns in person during normal business hours, 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday - Friday. The Tax Department is located at:

You will be required to fill out a 990 & 990-T Public Inspection Request Form and pay any related fees.

To receive a copy of the University’s tax returns by mail, send a written request to:

Your request letter must include your name and the address to which the copy of the return should be delivered. The University will calculate copying and mailing costs and notify you of the fee. Within 30 days of receipt of a check for the amount of postage and copying, the University will send the copy or copies to you.
